Hisatsugu Suzuki, a respected jazz saxophonist recognized for his contributions to the music of “Lupin III” and collaborations with artists such as ZARD, passed away on December 28, 2023. He was 52 years old.

Born in Osaka on November 22, 1972, Suzuki began studying music at an early age, influenced by his saxophonist father. He started playing piano and composing music at four and took up the saxophone at ten. After graduating from Osaka College of Music, where he specialized in saxophone performance, he embarked on a career that blended jazz, pop, and media soundtracks.

Suzuki was a key member of Yuji Ohno & Lupintic Six, contributing to the music of the beloved anime series “Lupin III.” He also supported artists like ZARD and Fusanosuke Kondo and contributed to soundtracks for commercials and television dramas.

In 2023, Suzuki released “Stars & Smiles, Vol.2 (Songs)” with the Hisatsugu Suzuki Trio. His final performance took place on December 25 at Koiwa Cochi in Tokyo. A family statement shared that he had been undergoing medical treatment before his passing. A private funeral was held on January 5, with a memorial service planned for a later date.
