Cö shu Nie and HYDE Collaborate on “Black Butler” Opening

Cö shu Nie and HYDE team up for “MAISIE,” the opening theme for Black Butler: Public School Arc. This gothic-inspired song reflects the dark themes of the anime’s latest chapter.

Japanese rock artists Cö shu Nie and HYDE have joined forces for the first time to create “MAISIE,” the opening theme of the upcoming anime Black Butler: Public School Arc (Kuroshitsuji: Midori no Majo Hen). The song is set to accompany the anime’s premiere in April 2025.

Based on Yana Toboso’s beloved manga, Black Butler has long been known for its gothic themes and intricate storytelling. For this new installment, HYDE composed the song’s lyrics and concept, while Cö shu Nie’s Mirai Nakamura arranged the track. Both artists have expressed their admiration for the series, lending a personal connection to the collaboration.

HYDE, an icon in Japanese rock and a self-confessed fan of the series, commented on the process: “It was an honor to be involved in a story I love. Shaping Ciel’s determination and Sullivan’s fate into music went smoothly, and Nakamura’s arrangement added a wonderful touch. I’m looking forward to seeing how the visuals and music come together.”

Similarly, Cö shu Nie’s Nakamura shared her thoughts: “Collaborating with HYDE on a project as special as Black Butler was an incredible opportunity. I approached the arrangement with care, building on HYDE’s ideas while staying true to the atmosphere of the original manga. I hope fans enjoy the result.”

“MAISIE” reflects the gothic intensity of Black Butler: Public School Arc, providing a fitting introduction to the anime’s dark and emotional narrative. Both fans of the series and followers of Cö shu Nie and HYDE can look forward to a song that captures the essence of the story.

The latest chapter of Black Butler premieres this April, accompanied by the highly anticipated collaboration between Cö shu Nie and HYDE.
