KAT-TUN to Disband in March 2025, Kazuya Kamenashi to Leave STARTO

Legendary idol group KAT-TUN will officially disband on March 31, 2025, as announced by STARTO ENTERTAINMENT. While Kazuya Kamenashi is set to leave the agency, Tatsuya Ueda and Yuichi Nakamaru will continue their careers as solo artists.

STARTO ENTERTAINMENT has announced the disbandment of KAT-TUN, one of Japan’s most enduring idol groups, on March 31, 2025. Alongside the group’s dissolution, member Kazuya Kamenashi will leave the agency, while Tatsuya Ueda and Yuichi Nakamaru will continue their careers under individual contracts.

Originally formed in 2001 as a six-member group, KAT-TUN quickly became one of the most influential acts in the Japanese entertainment industry. With numerous chart-topping hits and a reputation for their edgy style and dynamic performances, the group solidified its presence in J-pop history. Despite multiple member departures over the years, KAT-TUN remained active, even making their debut appearance on NHK’s Kouhaku Uta Gassen in 2021.

In a statement, STARTO ENTERTAINMENT explained that the decision followed a year of discussions with the members. The company concluded that disbanding KAT-TUN and allowing each member to pursue independent paths would be the best course for their futures. The agency also expressed deep gratitude to fans and industry professionals who have supported KAT-TUN for the past 25 years.

While the disbandment marks the end of an era, Ueda and Nakamaru will continue their activities in the entertainment industry, and Kamenashi’s next steps remain highly anticipated. KAT-TUN’s legacy, defined by innovation and resilience, will undoubtedly remain a key chapter in J-pop history.
