Fans of Hello! Project have reason to celebrate as several long-awaited classic tracks from the label’s iconic soloists and units are finally arriving on subscription-based music streaming services. As of today, songs from Aya Matsuura, Maki Goto, Mikitty Fujimoto, GAM, and Gomattou are now available for streaming, marking a significant step in making Hello! Project’s extensive back catalog more accessible to a global audience.
This move comes after years of limited digital availability for Hello! Project’s older releases, which had largely remained exclusive to physical formats and selective digital purchases in Japan. While this update is welcomed by longtime J-pop enthusiasts, it also highlights a glaring omission—Morning Musume remains absent from streaming platforms.
As the flagship group of Hello! Project and one of Japan’s most influential idol groups since its debut in 1997, Morning Musume’s music library remains largely locked away from the convenience of modern streaming. Despite periodic digital releases of newer material, much of their extensive discography—including their early 2000s hits that defined the J-pop landscape—has yet to make its way onto major streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
This inconsistency has long frustrated international fans who have seen fellow idol groups and even Hello! Project’s solo acts gain wider digital availability while Morning Musume remains largely left behind. The reasons for this are unclear, though licensing complexities and past distribution agreements may play a role.
With today’s announcement, the hope is that Hello! Project will continue expanding its streaming offerings, finally bringing Morning Musume’s rich musical history to the digital era. Until then, fans will have to keep waiting for the moment when classics like Love Machine, The Peace!, and Renai Revolution 21 can be streamed as easily as their Hello! Project counterparts.
