A Group That Kept Evolving
TEAM SHACHI started in April 2012 under the name Team Syachihoko, making their debut with a street performance at Nagoya Castle. The group gained a loyal following thanks to their high-energy performances and lighthearted approach. In 2018, they rebranded as TEAM SHACHI with four core members: Akimoto Honoka, Sakura Nao, Ooguro Yuzuki, and Sakamoto Haruna.
Over the years, the group experimented with different musical styles and approaches. In 2022, they took a step towards independence by leaving Warner Music Japan’s unBORDE label and launching their own label, Wakuwaku Records. This move allowed them to take more control over their activities, though they remained a niche act within the Japanese idol scene.
A Difficult but Thoughtful Decision
In their announcement, the members expressed gratitude to their fans and explained that the decision was made after long discussions about their future. “Thanks to the Tough-min, we were able to share many unforgettable moments, laughter, and even tears. We truly felt like a team.”
Each member shared a personal message, reflecting on their journey. Akimoto Honoka spoke about how much she had grown over the years, while Sakura Nao expressed mixed feelings about leaving behind some unfulfilled dreams. Ooguro Yuzuki thanked the fans for their constant support, and Sakamoto Haruna admitted that, despite her love for performing, it was time to move on.
One Final Year of Performances
Before saying goodbye, TEAM SHACHI will hold a series of farewell concerts. On September 21, 2025, they will perform their last Tokyo show at Tachikawa Stage Garden, followed by a final performance in Nagoya in December. The group promises to stay true to their spirit until the very end: “We want to deliver fun, energetic, and exciting performances right up to the last second.”
A Modest but Meaningful Legacy
While TEAM SHACHI never reached mainstream superstardom, they carved out a space in the idol world with their unique mix of energy, humor, and dedication. Their discography includes their self-titled debut album in 2019, as well as later releases like TEAM (2022) and Warau Kado ni wa Fuku Kuru (2024). They will be remembered fondly by their fans for their passion and persistence.
As Akimoto Honoka put it: “We hope you remember us with a smile, thinking of the fun times we had together.”
