Gagaga SP Bassist Yasunobu Kuwahara Passes Away at 44

Yasunobu Kuwahara, longtime bassist of punk rock band Gagaga SP, passed away on February 5 due to heart failure at the age of 44. The band, which recently celebrated its 28th anniversary, has canceled upcoming performances in Japan.

Yasunobu Kuwahara, the bassist of Gagaga SP, passed away in the early hours of February 5 due to heart failure. He was 44 years old.

Gagaga SP, known for their raw punk rock energy, has been active for 28 years and held their first overseas concert in South Korea last December. Kuwahara had been a core member of the band since its early days, contributing not only to its signature sound but also working as a composer for artists like Hime Kyun Fruit Can and Hitomi Takahashi.

The band’s official website has announced that details regarding a memorial service or farewell event will be decided in consultation with Kuwahara’s family and shared at a later date.

Following his passing, Gagaga SP has canceled their scheduled performances at “Shibuya Ongakudo Kokera Otoshi Rock’n’Roll Kaigyousai!” in Tokyo on February 14 and “‘Yaa. Bonjin’ Release Tour: Jinsei, Dame de Motomoto” in Osaka on February 15. Information on ticket refunds will be provided soon.

The band is also set to perform at the Taiwanese festival “Emerge Fest 2025” on February 22 and 23. However, there has been no official announcement regarding whether their appearance will proceed as planned.

Kuwahara’s contribution to Gagaga SP and the Japanese punk rock scene has left a lasting impact, and his sudden passing is a significant loss for the industry and fans alike.
